Foraminal Stenosis Resources

Resources

  • Arthritis in the Spine
When arthritic inflammations occur in the spine, they are accompanied with pain and severe restriction of movement. Read more on this condition here.
  • Pinched Nerve
There are many causes of a pinched nerve but the most important thing you can do is get a proper diagnosis and start blood pumping to that damaged nerve again.
  • Scar Tissue Facts
Although they are most often not considered pretty to look at, a scar is a natural part of the body’s healing process. Every wound will result in some form of scarring dependant on its severity.
  • Facet Disease Facts
Significant lower back pain is rarely caused by facet disease because most patients who suffer from facet disease will often have other conditions contributing to their symptoms
  • Spinal Stenosis
Stenosis of the spinal canal chokes or reduces available space adding pressure to the near by nerve endings or spinal cord itself
  • Treatments

  • Facet Thermal Ablation
A Facet Thermal Ablation is a procedure very similar to a root canal a dentist performs. The surgeon uses a laser to clean the facet joint and deaden the nerve that innervates the joint and causes painful symptoms.
  •
  • Percutaneous Discectomy
Percutaneous Discectomy is the surgical removal of herniated disc/bulging disc material that presses on a nerve root or the spinal cord.
  •
  • Laminotomy
A laminotomy is a surgical procedure that is used to relieve pressure off the spinal canal for the exiting nerve root and spinal cord.
  •
  • Foraminal Stenosis Surgery
Once conservation methods of treatment for foraminal stenosis fail, the next choice for treatment is through a surgical approach.
  •
  • Stenosis Treatment
Conventional treatments that are to be attempted before surgery is approached
  •

    Symptoms

  • Radiating Pain
When stenosis chokes the sciatic nerve, symptoms such as radiating pain associated with sciatica may be present
  •
  • back Pain
When someone suffering from stenosis flexes creating more room in the afflicted area, symptoms of pain will often diminish
  •
  • Pins and Needles
A feeling of pins and needles can be present from time to time in people suffering from stenosis
  •
  • Muscular Weakness
Weakness is a symptom displayed by many sufferers of stenosis, caused by the impingement of nerves from reduction of available space.
  •
  • Numbness
Numbness in the extremities is a symptom that is often associated with foraminal stenosis
  •

    Causes

  • Bone Spurs
If a bone spur develops in or around the foramen, it can apply pressure to the exiting nerve causing symptoms of foraminal stenosis to be felt
  •
  • Herniated Disc
A herniated disc applying pressure on the nerves exiting the foramen can cause symptoms of foraminal stenosis.
  •
  • Age
As the human body ages, so does the spine. As the spine ages, the parts associated with it begin to break down allowing for the development of painful back conditions
